Historic Herald Square Properties

The Herald Square building was built by developer Owen Burns in the 1920's to prominently mark the southern entrance into downtown Sarasota. Honoring this important vista point, Burns hired renown architect Dwight Baum to design this unique two-story mixed use building with commercial below and residential above. Baum, a Chicago architect, also designed the Ca'd Zan home for John and Mable Ringling, the Ringling Hotel (demolished) and the Sarasota Court House. Today the Herald Square building remains prominently located in Burns Square and is considered one of the most historically and architecturally significant properties in the city.

Nestled between upscale neighborhoods Laurel Park, Hudson Bayou and Palm Avenue, the building is surrounded by distinguished businesses such as the Burns Court Cinema, L.Boutique & Spa, Gia Ventola Clothier, Owen's Fish Camp Restaurant, the Woman's Exchange Consignment for the arts and many more.

Conveniently situated next to Public Parking, Public Transportation and within walking distance of several Supermarkets such as Whole Foods. The Post Office, Churches, Police Station, Health Department, Hospital, Social Services and the multitude of amenities found in a city are just blocks away.

The arts and gardens are neighbors with Selby Botanical Gardens, Bayfront Park, Payne Park, Sarasota Ballet, Sarasota Opera, Van Wezel Performance Hall, Hollywood 20 Theater, Florida Studio Theaters and numerous fine art galleries and antique stores. Close to Boating, Beaches, Ringling Museum and the Airport.

The Herald Square building, owned by Denise Kowal since 1986 has undergone several renovations and recently layers of embellishments were removed to reveal the original rare stucco surface.
